O Cebreiro, is a picturesque village renowned for its beauty and historical significance along the Camino de Santiago. Perched at an altitude of over 1,300 meters, O Cebreiro offers breathtaking panoramic views of the surrounding mountains and valleys. The village is famous for its traditional pallozas, round stone huts with thatched roofs, which provide a glimpse into the region's ancient Celtic heritage.

One of the highlights of O Cebreiro is the Church of Santa María la Real, a pre-Romanesque gem dating back to the 9th century and home to a revered Eucharistic miracle. Pilgrims and visitors alike are drawn to O Cebreiro for its tranquility, spiritual significance, and the warm hospitality of its residents.

Visit the Church of Santa María la Real, a perfect example of pre-Romanesque architecture. Built in the 9th century as a hostel for pilgrims, this church has witnessed centuries of history. Observe its simple stone exterior, entrance porch, and small tower. Inside, you’ll find a large baptismal font used for immersion baptisms. Legend has it that the Miracle of the Holy Grail occurred here in the 14th century. In 1486, the Catholic Monarchs gifted a reliquary to hold the flesh and blood of Christ.

Pallozas: Explore the pallozas, pre-Romanesque dwellings that were inhabited until the 20th century. These traditional constructions are part of the local heritage. Inside the church, you’ll discover two tombs: one of a monk and another of a parishioner, both central figures in O Cebreiro’s history. Next to the church stands the ancient Hospital of San Giraldo de Aurillac, which preserves a bronze-age stone with an engraving.
